Best Practices for Virtual Volunteering

Best Practices for Virtual Volunteering

As organizations struggle to adapt to social distancing requirements and travel restrictions, all international programs have been canceled or postponed. Without clear understanding of when travel may resume, many organizations are turning to virtual volunteer programs as a tool to keep both their volunteers and their local partners engaged and to continue providing skilled labor to communities that need it.

As shown by a poll conducted during the latest webinar hosted by BBC and IVPA, most organizations are unsure of how to pivot programs to a virtual format, largely because their programs are not suited for a virtual environment or they are unsure if their local partners can support the virtual requirements.

BBC and IVPA worked with Pyxera Global and AFS Intercultural to present their best practices for virtual volunteering on April 22, 2020. The panelists presented a comprehensive list of considerations organizations need to address before launching a virtual program and shared various examples of virtual programs being developed or recently launched in response to Covid-19.
